Western Black-tailed Godwit
Limosa limosa

Habitat: Mainly inland jheels, marshes, lake shallows and muddy shores.
Size: Larger than a partridge.
Distribution: Widespread except in parts of northwest, east and Himalaya.
Identification: Best distinguished from the Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) in flight, when it shows prominent white wing-bar, single broad black tail-bar and legs trailing well behind tail. Bar-tailed mostly occurs along coastal wetlands, while Black-tailed is predominantly limited to freshwater inland habitats.
