Habitat: Freshwater and coastal wetlands.
Size: About that of a quail.
Distribution: Common and widespread winter visitor to the plains and hills across India.
Identification: Constant bobbing when feeding (other sandpipers may bob, but not constantly) and the prominent white wing-bars in flight are prominent features.
