Grey Wagtail

Habitat: Near water in wooded areas.
Size: About that of a sparrow.
Distribution: Winter visitor to the entire region.
Identification: The Grey Wagtail has a grey head and grey back; this combination is not seen in any other wagtail species that overwinters in the region. Distinguished from similar-looking young of the Citrine Wagtail (Motacilla citreola), by its yellow vent. The Grey is the only wagtail with a yellow vent.
