Anas acuta


Habitat: Freshwater wetlands and brackish lagoons.
Size: Smaller than domestic duck.
Distribution: Widespread and common winter visitor thought the country.
Identification: Females are distinguishable from other dabbling ducks by a long neck, slender grey bill and greyish underwing.  Additionally, differs from female Gadwall (Anas  strepera) by absence of white in the wings; from female Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) in lacking the bright wing-speculum.
