Wood Sandpiper
Tringa glareola

Habitat: Shallow waters with emergent vegetation like marshes, inundated paddy fields, village tanks, etc.
Size: Similarl as that of a quail.
Distribution: Winter visitor almost throughout the region; plains and low hills.
Identification: Look for a prominent white supercilium and white spots on the wing and back. In flight, the Wood Sandpiper shows a prominent white underwing, distinguishing it from the similar-looking Green Sandpiper (Tringa ochropus). The call is a good way to distinguish among sandpipers.
